Audubon Connecticut was awarded $117,000 through the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation's Long Island Sound Futures Fund. This will allow the establishment of the Audubon Alliance for Coastal Waterbirds with the Connecticut Audubon Society. Both Audubons will deploy a volunteer corps of beach stewards who will work with state and federal agencies to monitor nesting coastal birds and educate the public about the species found in and around the Sound. We will also partner with the Goldenrod Foundation in strengthening local awareness and increased understanding of the need to conserve these threatened coastal birds amongst municipal officials and provide educational materials for recreational boating groups. The Audubon Alliance marks the first time Connecticut's two largest bird conservation organizations are undertaking a joint venture of this magnitude.
